3rd General Assembly (10 November 2008)

Implementing CO2 Capture and Storage Across Europe - and Beyond:
Outlining the optimal Portfolio of Demonstration Projects

Climate change arguably represents the single greatest challenge mankind has ever faced. Immediate and decisive action is required if we are to take advantage of the rapidly diminishing window of opportunity to mitigate climate change.

It is widely accepted that CO2 Capture and Storage (CCS) is one of the key solutions for combating climate change  – while building a bridge to a truly sustainable energy system. As a result, it is imperative that CCS now receive the support and structure required to become a commercial reality, so that CCS can realize its potential of reducing the EU’s CO2 emissions by over 50% by 2050.

To this end, the European Technology Platform for Zero Emission Fossil Fuel Power Plants (ZEP) is pleased to invite you to its annual General Assembly 2008, where our unique coalition of stakeholders (European utilities, petroleum firms, equipment suppliers, scientists, geologists, environmental NGOs) will present an in-depth study outlining how an EU Flagship Programme of large-scale CCS demonstration projects can be implemented.

The precise workings of the EU Flagship Programme will be based on extensive stakeholder interviews, ZEP’s comprehensive and ground-breaking technology matrix, and independent, fact-based analysis

The urgent implementation of the EU Flagship Programme is not only vital for EU CO2 reduction targets to be met, but it is a clear call to action by other countries, like India, China and the US, where the coordinated implementation of CCS could also help to significantly curb CO2 emissions.
